Played Gulam

It’s been a while since I’ve played another visual novel! This time, it’s an entry for this year’s NaNoRenO entitled Gulam by Aracade. You can find the game’s thread in the Lemmasoft forums or download it in itch!

Gulam is about a red-headed girl named Abby whose mom left for work one day. Bored and alone, Abby searches for a way to survive another lonely night by reading books, drawing, eating and the like, until she found a creepy, talking book in her mom’s room and a demon pig that appeared out of nowhere! Things started to get weirder, with Abby wondering what kind of secret her mom is keeping from her.

oh my j abbey

Chained  book with sharp teeth and weird symbols? Don’t use the key, alright.

The art has a lovely style, the story concept will definitely pique your curiosity, and the dialogues make the characters real! Gulam is a great game for NaNoRenO 2017!

What I somehow find unsatisfying is the lack of answers to questions that readers will definitely want to know about. It’s definitely a short visual novel, knowing it’s for NaNoRenO, and so I definitely get that the developer might lacked some time in completing the story solidly.

The story revolves around the book that Abby found, and the demon pig that she accidentally summoned (this is why I don’t ever read things aloud).  But more than that, Abby’s mom plays a big part in the mystery, but the readers don’t know how. This could also lead to the bigger background story of Abby’s dad, which is, another thing that the readers don’t know why. The thing is, the story is completely unfinished in my opinion.

But NaNoRenO doesn’t really have strict rules about updating the game after the deadline is met! I just checked the game on itch and it seems Aracade updated a new version of Gulam. I will be checking it out later on, but since I’ve got not much time nowadays, I decided to make a blog post about Gulam or else, I may end up procrastinating and worst, I might finally not be able to make a blog post about it ever! So for now, I’ll just update this post once I have gotten the other endings.

whats going on

If I click the choice of wanting to know what’s happening, this is so far, the very ending that was a bit closer into unlocking the other mysteries.

In my opinion, releasing a game without completing all the story’s ending is a bit risky. People who may have downloaded the game might not be able to re-download it again in cases where they might be busy with other things in life that they might not find time to play it again, or if they found another visual novel that they wanted to play so they forgot about re-downloading the game, or if they are not notified that a newer update of the game is released. I actually found out that there was a new update as I copied the game’s itch link to this post!

Overall, it’s a satisfying game if the endings are all completed and if all questions are answered (and I will just assume that it is completed with the new update). And when I play a visual novel, I always want to unlock all endings no matter what, that’s why I can tell that I’ll definitely be re-downloading Gulam again. A walk through for Gulam is also encouraged and highly requested XD

Since I made a challenge to myself that I’ll be doing some character fanart for some of the visual novels that I’ve played in order to improve my own drawing skill! Here’s my very first fanart below:

It doesn’t look much like the characters and I’ve missed to put some details (such as the weird marks written on the book’s cover), but I like to imagine this scene where Abby goes with Gunter for their allegiance. Gunter, the demon pig, is a very cute character by the way!

Congratulations to Aracade by completing his/her very first visual novel! I look forward to the more visual novels that you’ll make in the future and good luck!

I can finally kiss the sleepless nights goodbye!

For those of you who don’t know, I have a list of goals I want to achieve as a visual novel creator, and one of them is to make a visual novel for a NaNoRenO event!

There’s a lot of things I learned in making my first ever NaNoRenO VN.

  • I learned that I can make a visual novel within 15 days. Sure, anyone can make a VN even within an hour. A very, very short VN at that. But this Encanto VN was made on March 15 and I ended it on March 29, 15 days to be exact. It has 6000 words, 3 character sprites, 5 CGs and 6 endings. With that, I had to do the visual novel everyday, be it by the drawings or the script.
  • One should be aware of the resources that they’ll use on their visual novels. I made an account and with it, there’s an option in which the readers can donate money for your VN. There are a lot of free resources to use on the internet but the question is, are they suited to use in terms of licenses? For example, I may gain profit from the VN if someone got blinded by the crappiness of my VN and accidentally donated, but won’t I get sued if the license of my resources indicates that I shouldn’t use it for commercial purposes? Fortunately, I only used Kevin MacLeod’s music and some other sound effects for the VN. Some of them are fine to use for commercial games. It’s a good thing to research first before doing anything, really.
  • I learned that the new Renpy software is a pain in the ass. Seriously 😦 Some codes such as the CG Gallery from leon doesn’t work anymore 😥 But anyways, one should expect that the software is changing for the better, and so codes are also changing. The problem is, not much new code has been posted for the new software. Everyone’s still new at it, I guess?
  • No matter how crappy my VN is, some of the very few people notice it. No matter how bad you think it is, go ahead and release it to the public! One out of the billions of people might read it, and you’ll be happy they did. Even though the person doesn’t like it. Because that single person endured the 15 minutes of gameplay and even bothered to download it, that’s enough to make me happy.
  • Don’t wait for your hobby to die. If you’ve been neglecting your hobbies, you will soon be lazy to do it again. That’s what I felt when I released my first VN. I felt successful because I was able to make my very first one but then I forgot about making visual novels and never progressed from there. Because of this NaNoRenO event, I focused on releasing my second visual novel, and my drive for making visual novels is back once again! One should keep on doing what they like everyday but I’ll make sure to be organized and have time for other things.
  • My sweetie’s patience is this long >//w//<  Even though I’m too busy to even chat because all I do is visual novels and eat and no sleep and visual novels, he’s still patient and keeps on waiting for me to finish this! And it makes me appreciate him even more!
  • It was worth it.

For those who are interested how crappy this VN is, you can download it on and see the discussion, if there ever is a discussion about it on this Lemmasoft thread.  To unlock all the game’s endings, you have the walkthrough here. Getting all endings makes you unlock the Author’s Notes where you can read some nonsense there.

And since my first NaNoRenO is done, I guess I’ll tick off my goal #5!

Goal 5 done

What else should I add as a goal?

Made an account and Encanto nearing completion!

I finally made my account! Of course there’s nothing uploaded there yet. But I’ll soon upload my visual novel for the NaNoRenO 2017.

Right now, my visual novel Encanto is almost done! I only have to add the credits and the main image. I played the visual novel to test bugs and after successfully testing, I’m like “what crappy shit visual novel this is lol” but a friend tells me to finish what I’ve started and another one tells me that she can’t trust my judgement because I’m always negative when it comes to what I do 😥

There are a lot of struggles that I’ve encountered for my second visual novel. For example, the code that I used for the CG Gallery on my first visual novel, Raven doesn’t work anymore. Could it be that the new Ren’py software doesn’t work with the old code? I made a thread about it on the Ren’py Questions and Announcement section in Lemmasoft but no one seems to have the solution for it. I might just the ditch the CG Gallery. My CGs aren’t really that great, too, so we don’t need to have a CG gallery. But I think it’s still worth it to learn any other code about Galleries for my future VNs.

Another struggle I’ve encountered is that I forgot the code, or I didn’t write the code on my Notebook that’s why it is lost forever and I can’t find the article I got the code from. There’s a lot of disadvantages when you don’t know how to code. But still, with the Lemmasoft forums and Ren’py making life easier, I’m still grateful. I really need to keep codes to remind me about them so maybe I’ll blog about them some other time.

I’ll probably upload the game on the 28th or maybe after March is done. I need sleep and school stuff gets in the way. I guess releasing it earlier than April 1 should be for the better.

Encanto – my first NaNoRenO 2017

Wow, I’ve finally made up my mind about the title of my visual novel for my first participation in this year’s NaNoRenO event! I rushed the main image title for my VN and finally made my thread on the Lemmasoft forum’s WiP section for NaNoRenO. You can check my childish drawings there if you want, and if you want to know more about how I’ve been progressing with the visual novel everyday.

Now this time, I feel like making an account so I can upload my VN there once it’s done. seems like the most popular platform for games made by amateurs and so forget about Mediafire and Dropbox!!!

Since I only have one sprite done, I’m thinking of making the other three. Hopefully, I finish on time. It’s already 25th of March and I’m writing this at 2am in the morning!!! I don’t even know if I can wake up early later to do more about my visual novel!!!

And I’m still needing to search for music to blend well with visual novel Encanto. I’ll be using Kevin MacLeod’s music, since I’m too late to make music of my own. His music is so amazing! The title of the main music I’m going to use is “Gone Beyond”. It’s a pretty musicbox tune that I can’t get off of my head!

Now then! Time to sleep, but after I make an account!

Played Kusoge

So what I’m about to tackle today is my experience from playing a certain “shit game”…. Yes, you heard right… a shit game…. introduced to us by sorani from LemmaSoft. Here’s the link for the original Lemmasoft thread where the download link is mentioned, so you can have your share of the shittiness:

Kusoge on Lemmasoft

But wait! You must think that it’s a crappy game. No. No, I don’t share VNs that I don’t like. This “shit game”, also called as “kusoge” in Japanese term, is a must read (or play) for Visual Novel readers who are otaku to the core! Okay, well, you don’t have to be really an otaku to enjoy this kuso (okay, that’s yuck) but if you’re an anime lover, someone who’s watched a lot of anime, then this is the right visual novel for you!

Everything there is to know about anime especially the cliches: the characters and their cliched personalities, the scenarios that we successfully predict before it happens, it all can be found in Kusoge. It’s a parody, with all anime meme combined.

Now, what I loved from playing Kusoge is that I was able to relate with the jokes. Jokes doesn’t work with people who doesn’t get it, so I’m thinking that if a certain person doesn’t know the cliche of anime (or haven’t watched anime), then they won’t be able to get this VN. But who knows? Maybe you’ll still get a wonderful kuso experience from this VN?

About the story plot, a protagonist from another country transferred to a school in Japan where all random things happened. I think more of it as a story that’s made from a bunch of random ideas that’s put together in a sequence with no really serious story line. Well, that’s the point of this game, I think. It was never made to be serious. If it was serious then it wouldn’t be funny at all.

Let’s get to introducing the characters:

See how the characters’ names are made without being too serious about it at all. Not that I’m saying ‘Protag-kun’ is a bad name. I think it suits the character well (since he’s the protagonist, of course it will suit him). And I’m glad the characters were named with simplicity because I’m not really good at remembering names 😛 or it could be that the writer isn’t good in giving names 😛

Protag-kun is the transfer student from another country and was late on his very first day of school (a cliched scenario where transfer students are always late for school). There’s a lot of types of protagonist: the weak type who wouldn’t intervene in a fight and just watch, or the type of protagonist where he rescues girls from bullies, the gentleman type of protagonist or the pervert type, the type who’s a goody two shoes that will attend classes or the badass that would skip school (and on his very first day, too). All these is Protag-kun, compressed into one. You get to choose what kind of protag-kun you’ll have in your game, to view all different endings!

To the love interests:

Her name also means “class representative”, the innocent, super cute girl with ribbons and all (and with big boobs), one of the love interest that Protag-kun can have. Behind those gentle eyes and cute smile, actually lies someone who’s obsessed in love with Protag-kun to the core. Think of dead eyes. blood, knives and snapped ribbons… Read the VN and see how Iinchou-chan’s love can never surpass anyone. (I like the CG with the true ending for Iinchou-chan).

With the word, Yankee, you might have a hint what her personality is all about: dangerous, cool, someone who doesn’t need to be rescued during fights, and also, an arrogant girl who’d make you as her servant! But despite all that, there’s cheeks blushing, cats, magical girls and hairstyles. What kind of love can a Yankee provide? You’ll know once you read the VN.

A Lenny face… (The best way to reduce programming character sprites’ emotion in this VN…) In every anime, there should be someone supporting the main character. You might ask why his face lacks appeal (or do you think he’s handsome in that way). In my opinion, a main character should be the center of the story (since he’s the main character, of course) and the supporting friend is only there to make him look good (kinda feels sorry for Classmate-kun)… So basically, Classmate-kun’s face is of no importance.

But wait!!! Is Classmate-kun’s face forever be a Lenny? Or will Protag-kun see him in a new light? (He’s one of the love interests after all) … Find out about Classmate-kun’s handsome face as you read his route in this VN!

The character sprites are well done, and I love the CGs, too! Most of them drawn with meme faces especially on Classmate-kun’s route (but I really think they’re most handsome when on meme mode). Also the GUI designs really set the mood! Gives us the kuso feeling~

Although I had problems with the last question… “What is the answer to life?”

But Protag-kun’s bulging vein appeared on his cheek and rejected my answer, thus, ending into a “Game Over” for me…

So I tried to get my answers right…

And even though I went all out with my answers…

My answers were still rejected… So you can guess what happened next… I downloaded the answer to all problems… And maybe the answer to life: The Kusoge Walkthrough.

And well, to the players who keep searching for the answer to life, but are too lazy to download the walkthrough (yeah I feel ya), just drag down to see the texts written in white: All your base are belong to us. The punctuation is also included.

If you’re gonna play this, then I suggest to switch the waifu notes on. An otaku or not, the jokes are on Waifu’s notes… I promise!

Thanks, sorani, for making this game! More power to you and your Visual novels, and have a wonderful kuso day, everyone!~

Played Cafe Memoria

So it’s been a while since I posted about a Visual Novel I read! This time, it’s Café Memoria~  a Visual Novel created by thebackup.

If you read my previous post about voice acting, well, this is the reason for my obsession in voice acting! All characters are voiced in Café Memoria! Even the protagonist! (although if I’m going to voice my characters, I’m not including the main protagonist).

Anyway, you’re searching for a high quality Visual Novel? Finding something cute and refreshing? Then visit Café Memoria! A place where your stay will be memorable! Here’s the link:

Cafe Memoria thread in Lemmasoft

And also, there’s the link to the blog in WordPress:

Café Memoria is a Slice of Life genre, featuring five lovely waitresses in a wonderful café (the café is wonderful, Uncle Mugen took part in the backgrounds). You play the part of the male protagonist who stumbles into the café after looking at his empty fridge.

Although I don’t think it’s a BxG… the main protagonist doesn’t pursue anyone here 😆 Right now, I think the Visual Novel introduces the characters. Sadly, you’re not allowed to date them, only to know them better. As you observe how the waitress did her job, you’ll get to rate her on how she did well. If it’s a bad rate, you won’t know her back story. If it’s a good rate, something will happen after your visit in Café Memoria – a memorable one.

So I think Café Memoria is just the introduction of all the characters for the sequel (that is, if thebackup makes a sequel). And since the characters are already introduced to me, I’ll give my opinions about each character.

Ryne Reyes

The male protagonist which name I like to pronounce as Ryan. At first I thought he was weak looking, you know? Very ordinary. The kind of character with no distinct feature, the typical type who is always looking after his friends and helping them. There’s nothing wrong with that type of main character. But I was surprised with him being angry in Mikaela’s route:

Even with his angry face, he doesn’t look angry to me at all. But that sentence says he can be angry, too… sometimes.

That was just unexpected, since I thought he was the kind of guy who’s always kind and won’t talk back, but I’m wrong. I hope I can find more about him if thebackup creates a sequel.

Let’s get to the waitresses! Each one of them has a reason why they chose to work in Café Memoria. Select one to get to know her!

Anna Pervova

This shy, clumsy girl whom I thought was very annoying at first. Sorry, but I don’t really vote in for shy, clumsy girls who faints at little things. Always jumpy and confused, Anna is still hardworking, and I think, the most hardworking in all of them. If I have this kind of personality, the shy and the clumsy, I might end up inside my room, but Anna insists on beating that personality and tries her best to go out of the comfort zone. Well, I don’t have that kind of personality anyway 😉

She’s always worrying about things!

But being clumsy and shy isn’t the worst thing. Actually, it adds to her cuteness and to the charm of the game. I believe all manga, all anime, and all Visual Novels should have this type of girl.

Mikaela Kier

YES!!! The girl I love the most. Why? Because we both like Mountai- *eherm I mean Hilly Dew~ Plus, I can see myself in her. At first we both look grumpy, mean, foul-mouthed (I admit, I don’t deny) but just get to know us better and you’ll see an entire different MOOD SWING!!! (Not that I’m proud about those little … reaaallly small mood swings). But just so you know, there’s a reason behind Mikaela’s attitude.

She is me!!! Just because we both love the same softdrink!!!

Mikaela is Ryne’s childhood friend, so I think that was the reason why Ryne was able to throw that angry sentence to Mikaela (see the screenshot about Ryne). Well, they say that the more you’re close to this person and the more you’re comfortable with him/her, you’re able to argue with that person, even with the silliest things. I always like to ship people with their childhood friends, or with the person who doesn’t get along well with them (so I can see many progress about their relationship and see how they go into that “Love Stage” from “Enemy Stage”) that is why if there’s a sequel, a BxG game where I get to choose one girl, it’d be Mikaela Kier!

Tristina Hamilton

The tall girl in pink hair? I never thought her personality is like that… Her personality is a little bit like Mikaela which was really unexpected. I was expecting for a girlish attitude. But this one’s really different… She has this hatred towards guys, and I don’t know why, but I think there’s a reason about that. Right…? There has to be a reason! I hope I’ll get to know about this reason in the sequel, if there’s a sequel.

You’ll never know her attitude from this appearance. Where’s the thoughtful girl that my imagination showed me?!!!

At first, with her appearance, I thought she’s the mature type who handles all things with calm and ease. The type of girl who’d warmly smile while being gentle… But I’m wrong again. She’s a little bit similar to Mikaela, the type of person who’d say “Hurry up, I don’t have all day”, but just read this Visual Novel and you’ll be able to know her other side. Why did she apply as a waitress in Cafe Memoria? You better find out.

But anyway, I still love Mikaela.

Aurelia Alvarez

Oh… another annoying girl… I thought Anna was annoying but Aurelia takes it to a different level! She somewhat irks me!

This curious girl… Everything interests her, and that’s what makes her interesting…?

She calls Ryne by the name of Renee and no matter how many times he says that it’s not his name, she still won’t budge and it irritates me! Still I laughed when Ryne said this in his mind:

Yes Ryne, you should call her Amelia! Get back at her!!!

And she’s super seductive, too! I don’t know if she does that on purpose or what! But Ryne’s getting uncomfortable with the flirting, and I play as Ryne so I’m uncomfortable, too :3 But the main character Ryne is falling for her flirting and… well… I’m not… I’m not falling for it!!!

But is her dense a charm? At least the Ryne in the story says so.

In my opinion, she’s not dense. Just curious… about so many things! Everything interests her, but I think the thing that interests her the most is Ryne, that’s why she’s super attached to him. But if I’m gonna go ship these two … …. No… No way am I shipping these two. Well, maybe, but Aurelia’s at the very bottom of my list, and Mikaela’s on the top :p

And since Aurelia is so curious about so many things, it interests the readers. What is she going to do next? She’s so unreadable that you can’t predict. Another interesting thing… What was she gonna say?

What was she gonna say? Pe- what?

Well, play this Visual Novel to know more about her curiosity. Oh! And one more thing! If you’re gonna rate Aurelia, save your slot first then try to rate her the lowest. You’ll get the JUSTICE!!! You’ll see a different Ryne! And a different Aurelia, too! 😉 After rating her low, I changed my mind about her being an annoying person. Just read this VN to know why. It brings tears to my eyes! 😥

Julia Sakuraba

Now this is the weirdest of all… It seems that our main character has some sort of crush on Julia and that I’ll never know why… (Ryne!!! WHYYyyyy~ What happened to Mikaela? I’m gonna ship you with her!)

With the blood of a moe Japanese crawling in her veins… Who wouldn’t love this glasses moe?

Julia looked like that character who gives you that moe-moe feeling with her long dark hair and glasses. Considering she’s that small girl (small girls are always the cute ones!) This typical look of a moe source… Could it be..? Is that the reason why Ryne feels doki-doki around her? I’m sure it’s about the glasses. She’s the super talented girl when it comes to cooking, you’ll definitely want her as your wifey~ (I am sure Mikaela doesn’t know how to cook). Plus, if you have a thing for glasses, then she’s the right girl for you!

Over all, I love Cafe Memoria. Although in my opinion, I think it’s more of a KN rather than a VN. Although you can change how a waitress’ response (by rating her bad or good), that’s the only choice you can make in this VN to see a different ending. So I think I’m voting that it’s more like a Kinetic Novel rather than a Visual novel?

Nevertheless, it still has that interaction with the readers. Coding the “Rate Me” part must be difficult, and I don’t think I might be able to do that. About the sound, the voice acting is so professional! It makes the characters alive! I also like the music. Three music I like from the gallery are Evening, Casual and Comedy. Although I think Casual and Comedy has the similarities about the tone… (I think they’re the same but just different versions) But anyway I still love them!!! There are also more on the Extras that you have to check out on!

Just a wish. If there’d be a sequel, I hope I can see them all in uniforms and some scenes could take inside their school, since most of the girls are his classmates. It’d look refreshing to me. And also, a more developing story for each girl 😉

And that’s it folks! I hope there’s more in the sequel, and getting to choose one girl and focusing on her, I really hope there’s more to see! thebackup, I’ll be looking forward to the next story!

Played Dear Mariko

Now, now! Looks like I’m enjoying myself too much by playing more and more Visual Novels! Don’t worry, I’m also doing my best on my own Visual Novel, Mythical Creatures: The Remover. But Dear Mariko by Coren is so charming I can’t help it!!!

At first, with my wild imagination running, I thought she was referring to the empty room... and about the bad smell... I thought there was a rotting corpse hidden somewhere in the room @_@ shamefully jumping into conclusions!

At first, with my wild imagination running, I thought she was referring to the empty room… and about the bad smell… I thought there was a rotting corpse hidden somewhere in the room @_@ shamefully jumping into conclusions!

This VN features a short time game play! I say within ten minutes, you’ll get all endings. Maybe less? Maybe five minutes! But the charm never goes out!!! Have you played RPG all your life? Or anything with game boy emulators like Summon Knight, Sword of Mana, or even Pokemon? Their game style are all the same! This Dear Mariko gives you the same RPG feeling. It interacts with the player, so you can use your keyboard to walk for directions, like with the arrow keys, and pressing the Enter to examine the things around your character, and pressing the Space Bar to read the next sentence. And what I absolutely love with Dear Mariko is it has a great, unexpected plot twist! A genre of romance and horror, this game will thrill you! So why not visit the original thread for a bit?

You can download the game itself there. Come on, it won’t hurt to try it a little bit! It only eats a few minutes of your life since it’s so short 😆 Nothing to lose! Although if you’re going to play it, you can only use your keyboards. The most important ones are the Enter, Space bar, and the arrow keys! I got stuck in clicking the “Start” button with my mouse, but remembering the Keyboard option, I tried pressing some keys and it works! Now~ I was really charmed by this so I’m posting spoilers! So even if you don’t play the game, I can share with you my thoughts while I was playing Dear Mariko! Or if you want, play the game first before reading the spoilers! Drag down the mouse in order to read the Spoilers!

So from the very beginning, I pressed Enter and the game started!

It quickly showed me an RPG setting… And it got me thinking… “What the heck?!!! I thought this was a Visual Novel! Can Ren’Py create such a thing, though? Maybe it was created with an RPG software or something? Anyway, am I able to battle with something using the Keyboard? Is this really an RPG?”

But it wasn’t entirely an RPG although it looked like one. If you were to make this a “Point and Click” Visual Novel (Hm… I should somehow explain what I meant by “Point and Click”… Some Visual Novels let you explore the background by clicking on the objects. For example, in a murder mystery vN, the background shows a bloodied corpse and there’s a lot of things on your surroundings. You can click some objects with your mouse to investigate… Something like that…!), Dear Mariko is a VN that uses RPG style rather than the Point and Click. But whether it’s RPG or Point and Click style, the goals are the same. That is to investigate the surroundings. Both maxes the interaction with the reader but I think I like the RPG better. Since you see your character walking left and right, up and down, it really feels like you’re inside the game!

So, telling you the story plot: Mariko goes home one day and sees a goodbye letter from her loved one…

Really simple, right? Now, time for spoilers!

So the MC (means Main Character, and I’m controlling the MC with the keyboard, so the MC was definitely ME!) goes inside the house and investigates… The house has two background parts. First part has the living room, the kitchen, and it has the door leading outside the house. The second part includes the bedroom, and their comfort room. It also has this big cupboard that would take an important role in the story.

At first I was stuck in the first part of the house. I can’t open the door to the second part of the house, which is the bedroom… So I struggled looking for the key.

And what most people do when hiding their spare key… Under the pot plants! (But I don’t do that sort of thing.)

So I got the key and opened the door to the bedroom. I investigated the beds (There were two beds. The other one’s described as “Darien’s bed.” The other one is “Mariko’s bed.” Weird why the two don’t share a bed when they’re in love with each other, don’t you think?

And there, on the floor was Darien’s letter to Mariko. Since this is on Spoiler, I’ll tell you what the letter says. The letter said that Darien left because an insane girl wants to ruin their relationship. He needed to leave because the insane stalker might hurt Mariko.

Now you’re having ideas, huh? … ….. Or maybe not?

Let’s continue. The MC was really heartbroken. I felt that, too…

So I shall tell you that Dear Mariko has three endings all in all: the bad ending, normal ending, and the true ending. No good ending, huh? And some images to be unlocked (Although there’s no CG gallery). But there are different images for different endings. First, I got the Normal End… It’s OK… But I wasn’t satisfied with the result. Second, I got the Bad End *cries it was really bad… Then I got the True End, and it was the WORST!

Time for spoilers! I’ll tell you how I got all endings!

Continuing… After I examined the items, I thought, nothing’s happening. So I went outside… And the MC thought “I should give up on Darien… I should leave… blah blah blah” (By the way, these are my own words but the idea’s the same) And it was unsatisfactory! I didn’t like the ending so I thought, maybe I forgot something.

So, playing again… First, I investigated all the items on the first part of the house… Going to the second part of the house, I checked the bedroom, the paintings, rereading the letter again… And since I knew that the description of the objects changes when you read the letter, I examined all items again in the second part of the house. Going to the first part, I examined the items, too… This time, I didn’t go outside. I went back to the second part of the house, to see if I forgot something… THEN!!!

This is the thrill… There were footsteps… And the door made sounds… Someone was trying to get in!!! (At first, I thought the sound effect was knocking sounds… But after Coren replied to the thread, said that the doorknob got stuck… Though it wasn’t explained well… But it’s not much of a big deal though…)

Alright!!! Going back to the thrill! The MC thought it was that woman!!! So she should hide… But where?!!! Then there’s this time watch that appeared on the upper right of the screen, only giving you 20 seconds to hide… And I was so SCARED! I HATE TO BE PRESSURED!!! But I thought I should hide… QUICKLY!!!

Remembering the cupboard, since the description said it was big and all, maybe I could fit in there? And so I hid there…

The door opened and sure enough, it was that woman. She was holding a knife… Creeeeeeepy! She went to the second part off the room where the cabinet was (it’s where I was hiding) and she read the letter… Darien’s letter… She was laughing at first… Then she began to cry… Woah Crazy Woman! It was a little bit voiced… The dialogue said “Nooooooooooooo” But then you’ll hear the voice say “Iyaaaaaaaaaa”.

“No” in Japanese can be pronounced as “Iya” (i-ya). So the voicing was in Japanese, but don’t worry, you’ll understand the story since it’s in English.

Then she started to say “I’ll kill you” a lot of times!

The woman walked to the bathroom to search if Darien’s there. After that, she looked in the cupboard… *starts crying…

Bad End: I got stabbed with her knife because I have nothing to protect myself…

The time watch got me scared that the first thing that went on my mind is to hide… So making sure not to do that again… I loaded some saved slot and before hiding myself, I went to the kitchen first and took some knives.

If you go to the kitchen after the commotion on the door, you’ll have the option of what to pick: knives, spoon and fork, … ….. Of course you should pick Knives! What the hell!!!?

And so picking the knives, I made my way to the cupboard… History repeats itself and when the woman looked on the cupboard… The MC stabbed the girl!!!

I killed her…

Not that I want to, but it’s the way the game was written so don’t blame me…

Then the flashback started to appear… Lines from Darien’s letter…

And it was revealed that I was really the insane stalker that’s been hunting down Darien!!!

Such a wonderful story twist, huh? That’s the True End. If you’ll think about it, the best end for everyone is the Normal End.

Since in the Normal End, the stalker gave up on Darien. It’s definitely a happy ending for the couple… And maybe to the stalker, too. So she could find somebody new <*insert here Adele’s Someone Like You theme song>

The Bad End is really bad… For me… But not for the couple… Since I’m the one ruining their friendship… Even though I’m the bad guy here in the story… I don’t wanna die T_T

The True End is the worst end… But the perfect ending for the story… Since all questions were answered… All the truth revealed… And the twist is there! But it really is the creepiest end… In my personal opinion… (not the insane stalker’s opinion) Darien is the stupid fool who escapes with only himself and leaves his girl… Who does that though? I think he’s a coward for not facing the stalker, and leaving his beloved one… Never thinking that the stalker might already know their house. If he stayed with Mariko, he might have been able to save her, right?

And why does Mariko brings a knife with her? Maybe to defend herself? Does she already know about the stalker thing?

Mariko was misunderstood as the insane stalker, when it was really the MC (… me). Her dialogue were written in red… She laughs then cries then wants to kill me when she read the letter… She really looked insane, but once you understand the story, it all makes sense. She cries because Darien left and it turned to anger towards me… Although I’ll never understand why she laughs at times when there’s nothing funny… Could it be that Mariko is really insane?!!!! @_@

And that was it, folks!!! I wonder if I can also make an RPG style VN like this? I bet this wasn’t made with just Ren’Py? Anyway, thanks, Coren, for this short joy! My older brother will surely LOVE this VN!

I learned something about making super unexpected plot twists… Although I read something with the similar story idea… Search the manga Screaming Lessons: Bloody Valentine chapter, and the story is somewhat similar to this!

Anyway, I’ll try to make unexpected plot twists for my VNs! ❤
